Today I’m here to tell about our “Web Compatibility Sprint” who happened in 09/30/16 on Lab804 (a TI Company of Jaboticabal-SP).
This activity is part of a series of activities promoted by the Participation Team on Mozilla, to learn more about those activities access: https://activate.mozilla.community/
Our sprint has started at 18:30 on the Lab804, we begun with a brief explanation about the importance of Web Compatibility on Web and which ways we can help everybody have the same experience in any browser they choose.
The first step was install Firefox Beta and the webcompat Add-on on the computers, we had there many types of operating systems and this helps a lot in the tests later (OS X, Linux, Windows).
After prepare the computers, we accessed the Alexa Rank and selected some sites to use and check if everything is fine and in the right places in all browsers. We made tests in sites that we access a lot and famous sites in our region.
Among all tested websites we found 4 compatibility problems (in different sites) and we made the problem report using the Add-on and explaining what are expected and what are happening in those sites. Sometimes we tried to inspect code to see if we can find what is causing the compatibility problem.
It was a great activity, we talked a lot about the websites in our region (many of them don’t work in mobile phones) and for sure we will do more sprints like this! Everyone left happy with the results!
